Warrior Dash to Celebrate First Ever ‘National Obstacle Course Racing Day’

The nation’s leading obstacle course racing series encourages everyone to commit to OCR on July 18

CHICAGO, IL (July 11, 2017) – Warrior Dash, the 5K obstacle course race that more than 3 million people have completed since 2009, is commemorating the anniversary of its inception with the inaugural National Obstacle Course Racing Day on July 18. The annual holiday will serve as a day to celebrate the obstacle course racing industry and its continuing growth in popularity.

The day, #NationalOCRDay, holds special significance in U.S. obstacle course racing history, as the first ever Warrior Dash race took place on July 18, 2009 in Joliet, Ill. The following year, Warrior Dash launched the first obstacle course racing series nationwide and paved the way for the industry.

“National Obstacle Course Racing Day is a day of celebration for everyone. Whether you’re a dedicated OCR athlete or newcomer to the series, we want everyone to celebrate their obstacle course racing experience,” said Ryan Kunkel, co-CEO of Red Frog Events, the producers of Warrior Dash. “We’re looking forward to celebrating National OCR Day for years to come and introducing a new wave of participants each year to obstacle course racing.”

The obstacle course racing industry has seen mounting success since Warrior Dash launched the first national series in 2010. Obstacle course racing has now become an internationally recognized sport, with annual OCR participation surpassing that of traditional half and full marathons combined, according to Running USA’s 2015 data.

“Warrior Dash helped lay the foundation for what has become a robust obstacle course racing industry,” said Brett Stewart, co-Founder of Mud Run Guide and US OCR Championships. “Warrior Dash continues to be a leader within the OCR industry, and has established itself as a great entry-level event for novice participants as well as a fun event for the most seasoned competitors.”

In celebration of National Obstacle Course Racing Day, all are encouraged to leave their normal weekend in the mud and commit to a Warrior Dash event, whether a first time participant or battleground veteran.

Participants can sign-up and fundraise as a St. Jude Warrior. All donations go towards the St. Jude Red Frog Events Proton Therapy Center, which opened on the St. Jude campus in Memphis in late 2015. Warrior Dash and its parent company, Red Frog Events, with the help of participants and a variety of initiatives, have donated over $14 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Regional up and coming musicians to compete for shot at performing at the east coast’s largest music and camping festival

DOVER, DE (March 31, 2017) — One more slot has opened in this year’s Firefly Music Festival lineup, and festival organizers are looking to fill it with regional talent. Red Frog Events, producers of Firefly, and REC Philly are partnering to bring Big Break Live to life. The inaugural contest and showcase is a regional addition to Firefly’s national Big Break contest. By submitting an online application, regional artists will have the chance to play a set on a Firefly Music Festival stage.

Musicians will go through three rounds in order to win: round one to help discover the top 25 acts from all the submissions, round two fans will vote online to narrow it down to the final five, and in round three, the final five will compete in a live showcase in Philadelphia. One lucky winner will join the other 135+ artists and bands at The Woodlands in June to play on one of Firefly’s seven stages.

Timeline and Details:

From March 31st to April 8th, Big Break Live will be accepting applications from artists of all genres that live in states within a 150 mile radius of The Woodlands. This includes Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Connecticut, and Washington D.C.

Online Voting Opens

From April 9th to April 15th, online polls will open and fans will have three chances each day to vote for their favorite artists. The first round of voting will serve as a discovery platform for Red Frog and REC Philly to find the final 25 contestants. Once the top 25 are chosen, online voting re-opens and the results will rely on the fans. Voting does matter to get selected as a top 25 contestant, but is not the only qualification.

The Top Ten

Starting April 19th, fans will have the opportunity to vote for one act every 24 hours until it is narrowed down to the top 10. Then voting continues, and by May 1st, the top five contestants will be announced.

The Final Five

The final five will move on to play a live showcase in front of a panel of judges on June 2nd at Philadelphia music venue, Live! At William Street Common. After calculating online fan votes, live fan votes, and judges votes, the winner will be announced.

The Winners

The winner of Big Break Live will then go on to play on an official Firefly stage. Benefits for the winner include a content piece created by REC Philly (which will be promoted on Firefly’s social media platforms), a travel and food stipend, and artist credentials for the duration of Firefly Music Festival.

Additional Info

Red Frog Events and REC Philly are excited to partner to bring a more local feel and more opportunities for fan engagement to the largest music and camping festival on the east coast. The collaboration works to bring attention to local bands, not only through Big Break Live, but by booking 13 local acts to play Firefly’s first Northeast Rising Showcase.

To help musicians with the Big Break Live application process and create the content they need to fuel their campaigns, REC Philly will be hosting an open house at their “REC Room” studio in Philadelphia from April 1 to April 4. For more details, contact REC Philly here.

Warrior Dash to Celebrate First Ever ‘National Obstacle Course Racing Day’

The nation’s leading obstacle race series adds locations and encourages

participation of fitness newcomers

CHICAGO, IL (January 4, 2017) – Entering its ninth season, Warrior Dash, the 5K obstacle course race that more than 3 million people have completed since 2009, will feature 24 stops across North America beginning in Florida this February. As the obstacle course race that anyone can start and everyone can finish, this year will feature multiple new obstacles with the return of many fan-favorites.

“Heading into our 9th season of Warrior Dash, we’ve challenged more than 3 million participants since our inception,” says Ryan Kunkel, Co-CEO of Red Frog Events, the producers of Warrior Dash. “For many runners, Warrior Dash is their first organized race and glimpse into the obstacle racing industry. We’re proud to be the gateway for so many people to find their fitness inspiration and do something different during their weekend.”

Obstacles:
With 12 obstacles making up the 5k Warrior Dash course, many signature obstacles will return to the Battleground in 2017 including Muddy Mayhem, Warrior Roast, Goliath, Alcatraz, Pipeline, Fisherman’s Catch, and more. New obstacles debuting in 2017 include:

Magic Carpet Ride: Competitors can “walk on water” as they cross the wobbling, slippery mat to get to the other side. Core strength, balance, and speed are the  three wishes of choice to fly on the Magic Carpet Ride.

Pallet Jacked: The water will cushion competitors falls as they traverse across swaying decks hovering above the water. Make it across, and competitors will be one step closer to the finish line.

Bridge the Gap: To reach each plank and summit the top of the pyramid, competitors will need to stretch as tall as they can. Calf muscles and hamstrings are the key to successfully Bridging the Gap.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital:
Entering its sixth consecutive year, Warrior Dash continues their philanthropic commitment with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Participants can sign-up and fundraise as a St. Jude Warrior. In doing so, they gain access to the St. Jude VIP tent, with private showers, and additional benefits. All donations go towards the St. Jude Red Frog Events Proton Therapy Center which opened on the St. Jude campus in Memphis in late 2015.

A Kick-Ass Festival:
The Warrior Hangout offers something for everyone – participants and spectators alike. New in 2017 is the Stein Standoff and Tire Flipping. In Stein Standoff, ten Warriors will test their strength as they hold up their stein with a straight arm. Bend, spill or drop the full stein, and lose the standoff. Winner walks away with a stein full of beer. Warriors can test their strength or race their friends with Tire Flipping.

Enjoy a live DJ, more photo opportunities, lawn games and a full lineup of contests like tug-o-war, dancing, best beard, costume, and more. With more shade and seating options available, the festival remains free of charge and open to the public.

Participant Swag and Medals:
A new finisher t-shirt will be debuting at Warrior Dash in 2017. Participants will continue to receive a Warrior Dash signature fuzzy helmet with their registration. A new year brings a new twist on participant medals with Warrior Dash’s 2017 edition featuring a cube-shape that can double as a die to promote fun workouts and training routines.

The OCR World Championships and Warrior Dash:
Warrior Dash and the OCR World Championships continue their partnership for the international championship event taking place on October 13-15, 2017 at Blue Mountain Resort in Ontario, Canada. Competitive Warriors can qualify by finishing in the top 10 for their gender in any Warrior Dash competitive wave. The top three male and top three female finishers will be recognized on stage at their respective Warrior Dash award ceremony.

Chicago Beer Classic Returns to the Grass of Soldier Field with over 100 breweries represented

CHICAGO, IL (Nov. 21) – Chicago Beer Classic will return to Soldier Field on May 6, 2017 for the fifth year. Red Frog Events, producers of the festival, look to provide attendees the most memorable event to date to commemorate the anniversary and are expanding festival features and offerings.

New in 2017, guests can attend the Chicago Beer Classic Tailgate before or after their session time and grab food from popular Chicagoland food trucks, check out brewer merchandise, and purchase a pint.

Once inside the stadium, guests can sample beers from over 100 breweries and speak directly with the brewers behind them. Chicago Beer Classic will continue to focus on providing a variety of rare and unique brews to taste, as well as fan-favorites.

Returning features include local and limited-release beers, a fully loaded pretzel necklace making experience, games and activities, as well as interactive beer education throughout the festival. As an event tradition, Chicago-based breweries will be celebrated and highlighted on-site for locals to easily depict the breweries nearest them. The “MVB” award, Most Valuable Brew, will also return and will be announced shortly after the festival.

“We’re looking forward to making the fifth anniversary of Chicago Beer Classic the best yet,” says Megan Gaseor, Chicago Beer Classic Operations and Experience Director. “We’re proud to be Chicago’s largest beer festival and to continue the tradition of kicking off festival season in our hometown!”
